An Announcement about The Next Chapter
The Trouble With Elections: Everything We Thought We Knew About Democracy is Wrong
This is an announcement ABOUT the manner of release of the next chapter of the book, and is NOT itself an email with a piece of the book. Rather than release chapter 4 in small sections, as I have been doing up to now, this next chapter is now posted on the Democracy Creative Substack site as a whole chapter, but will NOT be sent to you as individual emails (although the audio is included here).
Let me explain why. Chapter 4 is all about election reforms that have been widely proposed in the United States, (topics like increasing voter turnout, campaign finance reform, and gerrymandering), but with my explanation of why they are insufficient to build a true democracy. This chapter is specific to U.S. politics, and I don’t want to further burden international readers with weeks of emails with only U.S.-centric material. Also, I am not certain this chapter belongs in the final paper edition of the book. I would especially like to get feedback from those of you who DO read chapter 4 (or just some sections, because it is fine to skip around and only read about the election reforms that interest you), as to whether this chapter is important enough to include in the final book. Below is the link to chapter 4. I will wait a bit more than usual before I sent out the next email section of the book from chapter 5, which will deal with elections using proportional representation.
