Here a footnote recommending other works that do document the failings of "our" electoral system, or electoral systems in general would be appreciated.

"On countless issues, including war, taxes, corporate bail-outs, health care, etc. there is a stark divergence between Congressional actions and public attitudes, as revealed in opinion polling."

If you were not already planning to, please provide with this not only citations, but also graphs or tables showing the consistency of public opinion over time in comparison to the behaviors of politicians (bills failing to be brought to a vote, or the votes taken, executive orders, etc.)
